WHY DO WE TRAVEL?Posted on 10 Feb 2016 by Jessica Munda tagged travel, adventure, growth, life, learning
EXPERIENCE. ADVENTURE. KNOWLEDGE. TASTE. CONNECTION. CHANGE. These are only some of the few things that make us escape our comfort zones, and dare to discover the beautiful wonders of this world that we are privileged to grace. But, merely travelling is not enough. In order to really make the experience an authentic one, and to grow into the person that you want to be, you need to create a link between your travel lifestyle and your lifestyle at home.
Here are 7 good reasons why you should enrich your life through travel:
1.The Power of Curiosity
By being curious while travelling, not only do you break barriers to unknown destinations and less travel paths, but you break barriers within yourself, revealing the true you! You will discover sides of yourself that you did not know existed, hidden passions and talents.
2.Discover and Appreciate New Cultures
Thinking subjectively is easy, and if we do not travel, we tend to think that our way of life is the only true way to live. By travelling, we look at the world from different perspectives. By immersing yourself in world of another, you will gain a greater understanding of the world as a whole, and you will be able to see the exceptional beauty in what you previously thought to be insignificant.
3.Create a Network
One of the biggest fears people have when travelling, particularly when travelling alone, is fear of the people (or lack thereof) that you will meet on your journey. You need to remember that others are also entering this new destination with the same thoughts, and you need to approach them with an open mind, and embrace this experience together. If you do this, you will not only make friends on your trip, but through travel, you will make friends for life. Each person you meet, whether local or another traveler, will bring something new to your life.
Travelling is very educational, and it is an educational experience that is impossible to get elsewhere. While travelling, you have the opportunity to learn about the history of your location and its people, new languages, new recipes, and different ways to live your life to increase your well-being. Travelling teaches you to live without regret, and to grasp every opportunity that comes your way. Even the opportunity to live and work in a new country that you never imagined. “Travelling transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary”. It empowers you!
5.Disconnect from the world, and Take advantage of your time.
Travelling allows us to take a break from the usual hustle and bustle in our lives. Sometimes, we need to turn off the noise, and escape to a place where we can be free. You can take time to relax, and do whatever you want in your much needed ‘me-time’. Whether you want to take a walk, ride a bike, take a nap, or dive into a new book, travelling places no boundaries on your free time.
6.Become a Storyteller
Some stories cannot be retold as they are better when experienced, but returning from a journey and sharing what you learned with your friends and family is important. Not only will it inspire them to go on their own adventure, but they are the ones who can truly see your growth. You do not only have to tell your story verbally, but you can keep a journal that will help you preserve your special memories, and you can return to it whenever you want to put a smile on your face.
7.Remind you of how privileged you are!
Once we return home from our journey, we realise how fortunate we are. We are able to afford to travel and discover the world; we have food on our plates; a roof over our heads; and family and friends who love and appreciate us. We must not forget about those who live in harsh realities, and do not have the opportunity to escape them. Travelling humbles you and gives you empathy for global suffering!
