About the Facilitator Annie Wyatt

Annie runs holistic Yoga and detoxification retreats in South Africa near Cape Town and Johannesburg.

She has over 20 years experience with cleansing practices both through diet and various cleansing techniques.  After experimenting personally with fasting, detoxification and working with food as medicine she shares what she has learned.  She is passionate about her work and is particularly interested in the area of self development though caring for oneself and others.  She believes strongly that when we care for ourselves, our lifestyle automatically improves.

Annie is a Yoga teacher, teaching in Cape Town South Africa.  She teaches Traditional Indian Yoga, a synthesis of Ashtanga Yoga and Hatha Yoga, based on Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras (Ashtanga) and Hatha Yoga Pradipika.  She studied in India at Yoga Vidya Gurukul (ashram) under Rishi Dharmajyoti.  She teaches yoga as a means to develop consciousness and to make the mind body soul connection.

To add to the effectiveness of physical Yoga practice, she works with remedial Pilates to strengthen muscles and to correct structural integrity.  She studied under Susan Arena Pepper, former ballerina based in Geneva Switzerland, who developed the Swiss Body Pilates method, and Master teacher Jennifer Paynter who has a deep knowledge of anatomy and is based in Cape Town South Africa.

In her personal quest for self development, Annie has immersed herself in the study of Taoism and has a profound personal interest in Psychological Astrology.  She integrates her knowledge in her work.

The Farmhouse

Set on this gem of natural Cape Vegetation with an abundance of wildflowers and bird life, the private farmhouse is a place of sheer tranquility and is the centre of our retreat.

Tulbagh and the Valley of Abundance

The valley was first discovered by European settlers in 1658 and land grants were made to 14 farming families in 1700. The town itself was developed in 1743 when the museum church was built. Post the 1969 earthquake every historic home in Church Street was painstakingly restored to its original glory. These 32 buildings now constitute the largest concentration of National Monuments in a single street in South Africa.

The town is situated at the northern end of the beautiful Tulbagh valley, which is almost completely surrounded by majestic mountain ranges - the Obiqua mountains to the west, the towering Winterhoek on the northern end and the Witzenberg on the eastern side. The Great Winterhoek mountains tower 2077m above sea level and are picturesquely snowcapped in winter.

Diverse flora is abundant throughout the valley and in the mountains. Proteas grow wild, as do herbs such as Buchu. Spring brings on a multitude of wild flowers which, coupled with the blossoms of the fruit trees, makes for a glorious show. This fertile valley produces some of the country's best red and white wines, olive oil, peaches, grain, pears - and 70% of the country's plums.

  1. Activities

All our juices and almond milk are cold pressed ensuring more vitamin, mineral and enzyme intake. “Cold Pressed” means that the juices are squeezed as opposed to cut so that the maximum amount of nectar is extracted from the pulp and fibre leaving only raw fresh juice. We will be demonstrating exciting new juice recipes. Along with our juices we provide shots which are nutritional boosters to supercharge your immunity, energy and metabolism.

The daily activities promise to enhance your overall wellbeing. Morning Yoga classes are designed to assist the detoxification process and is suitable both for beginners as well as well as advanced practitioners. To complement this we will be exercising the body with beginner and advanced Pilates sessions to strengthen and support the physical changes as well as daily walks which also serve to lubricate the joints, tone and rejuvenate the body. “Of all the weeks I’ve had the last years, this one is the most outstanding one. In a very positive way. Great place, great group of people but mostly great guidance by Annie and the therapists around. I felt very at ease, safe and comfortable, even though I was a bit anxious of doing this detox week. However I’ve not felt any better than I do now. Full of (renewed/new) energy and inspired by everything we learned during the retreat, I’m ready to continue this healthy lifestyle and live a happy life, forever.”

“I want to say a huge huge thanks for the retreat over April / May. It was in such a beautiful setting with a wonderful warm group of people, including yourself. I so enjoyed getting to know you and really value my time there. I cannot tell you how much better I feel. I have undertaken many juice fasts before, but this one has by far been the most transformational. After 5 days of juicing and the amazing Shiatsu treatments from Richard I felt (and still feel) like a new person. Not only does my body feel clean and healthy, but my mind is clear and light as well. It has been categorically life changing. Thank you very much and I will recommend Cape Town Retreats to everyone.”

“I spent a magical week with Annie and her team in the magnificent Tulbagh Valley. I couldn’t have asked for a greater birthday present. Not only did I cleanse my body with the amazing juices, almond milk and nutritious broth Annie and her team prepared freshly everyday, but I also reconnected with my own desires, ambitions and dreams. It is such a privilege in today’s charged lifestyle to be able to take time out, walk in nature, challenge body and mind and to listen to your inner voice. I can only praise Annie for her gentle approach and the absolute peace she embodies. This retreat should be a definite bucket list item for anyone who needs to realign themselves and who desires to find the beginning of their journey.”
